The Stories

This website is a resource to allow people to share their stories without being victims, as well as to highlight just how often street harassment happens in Brussels, and to work on what we’re going to do about it, together.

Ideas on how to share your story:
- Tell us what you experienced and where.
- Tell us what you witnessed as a bystander and where.
- Tell us what you did as a bystander to help and where. (Read more: “I’ve got your back” campaign)

We publish every story. If this the first time you share your story, it’s always good to view our Comment Guidelines and Policies.

This website is trilingual and we make a point out of publishing each story in its original language on the 3 parts (ENG - NL - FR) of our website. We don’t assume that everyone masters all 3 of these languages, but we would like to create a dialogue between all the visitors of this website, whether they happen to be English-, Dutch- or French- speaking, or all three.

Currently you can read all the stories in our archive under the category “The stories”.

Stories change the world. That is what Hollaback believes.

The internet has given us a new campfire around which to gather and speak. Each time you hollaback, you are given a king-sized platform to tell your story. Thousands are able to read it. Your story will shift readers’ understanding of what harassment means. Some will walk away understanding what it feels like to be in your shoes, others will feel for the first time that they are not alone or that it’s not their fault. Your story will redefine safety in your community—it will inspire legislators, police, and other authorities to take this issue seriously – to approach it with sensitivity, and to create policies that make everyone feel safe. Your story will build an irrefutable case as to why street harassment is not OK. A case strong enough to change the world.

It all starts with the simplest of gestures: Your hollaback.
